Beyond 12

Beyond 12 Adoptions & Family Services is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization recently formed by a group of adoptive parents, social workers, psychologists, and dedicated individuals who share a collective concern for the plight of children impacted by the HIV virus and AIDS.

Even though the HIV virus has been virtually eliminated in American newborns, tens of thousands of children in emerging nations are born exposed every year. Many of these children will be quickly orphaned, and thousands will go on to develop AIDS themselves.

Without an adequate diet and appropriate medical attention, the majority will not live beyond their 12th birthday. Those that do face a life of extreme poverty, isolation, and severe social stigma. As concerned parents and professionals, we at Beyond 12 find this morally unacceptable. We have come together in a joint effort to do what we can to ensure every child possible earns what we take for granted in America—the opportunity to live “beyond 12.”

Mission statement

Beyond 12 is dedicated to the ideal that every child, regardless of their gender, race, color, nationality, or medical status deserves a safe and loving home in which to grow and flourish.

Beyond 12 seeks to ensure this opportunity by providing safety, housing, educational training, counseling and adequate medication to South African orphans. When possible, these children will be placed for adoption with American families.

Children wishing to remain in South Africa will be provided every educational opportunity, including access to a college education.

Statistics

  • In the next 48 hours, more South African children will be born infected with the HIV virus than will be born with HIV the entire year in America.
  • 7000 children in South Africa will die in the next month.
  • Thousands more will be orphaned by AIDS.
  • In the time it takes you to read this page, several South African Zulu children will be brutally raped and infected with HIV.
